boycott supermarkets which do this or at least those products. if you must have such produce, remove wrapping in shop and leave behind with explanation. always take your own bags - stop being embarrassed about bringing your own bags; BE embarrassed to have things wrapped and packed for you in plastic and paper bags. won't solve the problem of environmental damage which is as we know all of us consuming endlessly and needlessly but is a little token of at least stating once and for all how ridiculous things have become. buy from farmers' markets. consumer power. here in the uk, which was almost as bad as the usa in terms of senseless packaging and consumer laziness, within a year of no more bags being offered automatically in shops, customers who have not brought their own bags into the supermarkets, apologize when they forget them and have to *ask* for bags. consumers - yes, you can!
One of the fun things that I did while my dad was visiting me was take him to my favorite green market here. ALL of the veges touch each other, and the air. It's GREAT!
